When do you refer to a licensed electrician?
We handle the replacement and installation tasks listed on this page when they fit our handyman scope, including outlets, switches, fixtures, ceiling fans, and smart devices. For panel work, service upgrades, or anything requiring a Texas electrical license, we'll say so up front and refer you to a trusted licensed electrician.
My outlet is sparking. Is that an emergency?
Persistent sparking, a burning smell, heat, smoke, or scorch marks can signal a fire risk. Stop using the outlet and turn off the circuit at the breaker if you can do so safely. If there is smoke or fire, leave the area and call 911. Rinelli is not an emergency electrical service; contact a licensed electrician for urgent diagnosis.
Can you install a ceiling fan where there's only a light?
Yes — but the existing electrical box needs to be upgraded to a fan-rated box (regular boxes can't hold a fan's weight or vibration). We'll check during the visit and install a proper fan brace if needed. We also handle running a separate switch leg if you want fan and light controlled separately.
Do I need a permit for electrical work?
Permit and licensing requirements vary by project and jurisdiction. Confirm the requirements with your local permitting authority or a licensed electrician. We refer panel, service, new-circuit, and other license-required work to a licensed electrician.
Will my smart switches work without a hub?
Depends on the brand. Lutron Caseta and most Zigbee-based switches need a hub. WiFi-based smart switches (Kasa, Wyze, some Leviton models) work without one. We'll match you with the right gear for your setup before installing — no surprise hub purchases later.
I bought a fixture online. Will you install it?
Yes. As long as it's UL-listed (which 99% of US-sold fixtures are) and you have all the parts, we install it. If something's missing or wrong with the fixture, we'll tell you before opening the box.
How much does it cost to replace an outlet?
Labor is $140 per hour, billed to the nearest half hour. A location-based trip fee is confirmed before booking. Parts or materials are discussed before work begins.
Do you guarantee electrical work?
Yes. If something we installed fails because of how we did the job, we come back and fix it — no charge. Manufacturer warranties on the hardware itself stand on their own (Leviton and Lutron typically have multi-year limited warranties).
